Maria Matos is a new Free Spirit Designer and is “very much inspired by the golden age of illustration, late 19th to the beginning of the 20th century. Her illustrations establish a bridge between this heritage and a more delicate, feminine and contemporary personal approach. Recurring themes are the representation of female figures in a fantastic universe, strongly inspired by traditional fairy tales, framed with fauna and flora with complex and detailed patterns.”

The Nocturnal Creatures collection boasts bright colors, wonderful contrasts, as well as balance of the small and large designs. The insect panel can be from Victorian Age as well as from a modern home – try to exhibit your nocturnal creatures to the best advantage!

The project on the second picture is called Elegant Wings Quilt by Maria Matos and is a free download from Free Spirit Fabrics website.

This fabric is sold in 1/4 yard installments, cut in one continuous piece from the bolt. For example, if you need 3/4 yard of this fabric, choose “continuous yardage in 1/4 yd installments” option and add 3 to quantity. If you need 2 yds from the bolt, choose the same option, “continuous yardage in 1/4 yd. installments” and put quantity of 8:

2 yds x 4= 8 (put this in quantity)

3 yds x 4= 12, and so on.

In other words, multiply the number of yards you need by 4 and you’ll get the quantity that you put in the shopping cart.
